Betwixt Old and New Year
For some reason, I thought about the movie “Jason and the Argonauts” (1963) where a giant iron statue came alive to protect the island of Crete from trespassers. Jason was on a quest to find the golden fleece.
This memory led me to read about one of the wonders of the ancient world, the Colossus of Rhodes. Also a giant statue, built to honor the sun god Helios, it was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 B.C.

New Year’s Eve 2024
Each of us stands on a cusp between what we have lived in the past and an unknown future in 2025. (cusp… from the Latin, pointed end of a spear:)
Will giants block our path? Maybe. Time will tell.

“Our yesterdays present irreparable things to us; it is true that we have lost opportunities which will never return, but God can transform this destructive anxiety into a constructive thoughtfulness for the future.”
TIME: Measures How We Spend Our Life
You may have a thousand unread emails (or more) in your Inbox, but one I received today emphasizes that “Every Yes is a Thousand Nos.” [1]
A different approach to New Year’s resolutions, the writer suggests a way to challenge yourself. He notes:
No one has unlimited time.
Everyone can, however, commit to one hour a day to do just one thing over the next year.
That hour adds up.
Designate a time for that one thing only.
Set a timer on your phone to go off before bedtime:
“Spend about 5 minutes journaling about your current Project of the Year, whatever it is. What is the next step you want to take? What problem might you run into? What ideas do you have so far for dealing with that problem? Please note: you don’t have to solve the problem. Just be aware of it.” Randy Ingarmanson

A year from now doesn’t sneak up on any of us. It happens one calendar page turning at a time––day by day, 24/7.
May your hopes, aspirations, and efforts and the ways you invest your time lead to blessing and peace in 2025.
Readers, you are loved.
